How to clean shower tiles without scrubbing
The following three methods focus on removing stains and buildup from the grout and tiles. Remember to put on rubber gloves and ventilate your bathroom during these chores.
Before cleaning, here’s a pro tip!
Use your shower to your advantage and steam the tiles up. Run hot water for a couple of minutes before cleaning to loosen up the dirt. Alternatively, a steam cleaner will also work.
Method #1: Hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is very cheap and is found easily in most stores. It’s a good bleacher, an excellent disinfectant, and helps deal with dreaded mildew and mold.
The most common presentation has a 3% peroxide concentration, and it’s the one recommended for home cleaning.
Do the following to clean the tiles:
- Mix in a 2:1 ratio of hydrogen peroxide and water inside a spray bottle.
- Apply on the whole tile surface and let the cleaner sit for 30 mins.
- Rinse the shower walls using the shower.
- Wipe off with a soft sponge if necessary.
Method #2: Vinegar and liquid detergent
Thanks to its acidity, white vinegar has reliable dirt-dissolving properties, saving you the need to scrub. It’ll smell for a moment, but it also goes away in minutes.
Follow these steps to clean your shower tiles with white vinegar:
- Mix vinegar with liquid dish soap in equal parts inside a spray bottle.
- Spray all over your tiles, especially over the stains.
- Let it sit for an hour so the vinegar can do its job.
- Rinse the tiles with cold water.
Method #3: Oxygen Bleach
This powdered cleaner will take care of the stains on your tiles and clean your grout nicely. Sure, it might not be as harsh as chlorine bleach, but it still has a lingering smell, so make sure to ventilate the bathroom.
To use oxygen bleach:
- Add three tablespoons of bleach to a 2-gallon bucket of water.
- After 30 seconds, dip a cloth and wipe the tiles and grout.
- Rinse with cold water.
If you’re facing stubborn stains, try making a paste instead:
- Add enough water to get a paste consistency.
- Grab an old toothbrush and apply the paste directly to the stains.
- Wait 10 minutes, and then wipe the tiles with a cloth.
- Rinse and wipe with another clean cloth.
